A 20th-century astronomer has lost a son he never knew existed. He has lost his wife. He has lost Earth.
700 years in the future an admiral finds an abandoned boy. To protect the boy from her enemies, she takes him on a dangerous journey - from the Forbidden Planet, to a barbaric space country called Oz, to the darkness between galaxies.
It is the Age of Immortality. It is the Union of Star Systems. It is peaceful - because the Navy rules humanity. There are no alien races, except for traces of extinct civilizations. The Navy keeps the Union frontier closed to further exploration. All of this is about to change.
The admiral will find memories. She will find love. She will find song. She will find death and magic. She will find people, people from the future, the present, and the past – and one of them will be herself.
The story is told in three sections: Keshona, Cryptikon, and The Lady in the Mirror. Each is the length of a novel.
